Fervours destruction

Gray area? Where? Sorry everything is in Black and White.

If you have been reading the news lately you will have seen a huge uproar in Libya regarding a Minister Roberto Calderoli and his t-shirt. He appeared on Italian TV wearing t-shirt emblazoned with a cartoon that satirized the Prophet Muhammad.

Whilst I agree that this was in poor taste for a Minister considering it is a known sensitive issue, I must ask; why was it necessary for 10 people to be killed because of it? On top of that, a cleric in Pakistan is offering 1.5 million rupees and a car for the assasination of the cartoonist who drew the cartoon in the first place. Personally, I thought that killing Free Speech would be worth at least 3 million rupees, a car and a hot tub.

How does this make sense when all of the Prophet Muhammad teachings are of peace and love of your fellow man? I didn't see the bible belt of the USA jump up and hunt down the cast of Dogma after the movie was released. Sure, they voiced their distaste and asked that it be removed from the circuit, but that is where it stopped. People need to voice their opinions, if you disagree you cannot resort to violence to change their minds.

One of the interesting things about this whole situation is that there are claims that the Dutch newspaper that originally printed the cartoons, had previously refused to print cartoons make light of Jesus and the holocaust. If that is true, and so far I have not been able to find any evidence to corroborate this, then printing the cartoon was definitely a bad move on their part. You can't have a sieve that catches only select ingredients.

"“You do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness." a quote from the Sahih Al-Bukhari (Found this quote on muhammad.net).
